description

The MA in Economy and Society track was designed to help students develop an understanding of how social preconditions may both limit and stimulate change from non-market to various types of market economy. The seminars focus on the interdependence between the economic and social systems at the time of a deep transformation. Thanks to courses like Political Economy of Policy Reform, Economy and Society (I and II), Seminar on Corruption and Sociology of Institutional Change, students are able to observe theories “in action”, as instruments for achieving a better understanding of the socio-economic world.

Graduate School for Social Research (GSSR)

education requirements

Applicants must have earned a first degree in social sciences or humanities from a recognised university or institution of higher education, or provide documentation indicating that they will earn their first degree from such an institution by the time of enrolling at the Centre for Social Studies (CSS) of GSSR.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. Those applicants whose first language is not English must submit standardised English language test scores.

other requirements

Applicants to the MA programme must provide a short (600-1000 words) outline of their proposed research topic for the MA dissertation, which will be weighted heavily in the admissions decision. The topic is expected to fall within the broad thematic focus of the track, and should be delimited and set out with the greatest possible clarity. This document should be enclosed with the application documents package.
