The American Studies Center is a cross-disciplinary department of the University of Warsaw. Its faculty research and teach various aspects of the United States culture, society, literature, art, film, media, history, economy, politics, law, ideas, etc. The faculty are both Polish and international scholars; the permanent faculty includes three professors from the US. Classes are taught by the resident and guest faculty.

Graduates of the American Studies Center have specialized knowledge about American society and culture, and the relations between the US and the world, including with Europe.

The MA studies program encompasses introductory lectures on various disciplines that make up the curriculum, and a wide spectrum of electives; students are encouraged to enroll in elective classes which would support their specific MA research projects. The program includes also a writing proseminar, MA seminars, and other types of classes. The program runs for two years (four terms).

The weekday program offers classes from Monday through Thursday. Some students in the weekday program do not pay tuition; this exemption is based on entrance exam scores. However, only Polish nationals and other EU nationals are eligible for this exemption.

education requirements

The basis for qualification to study is a written exam, which is a test of predisposition to study in English. The test consists of questions checking reading comprehension and ability to work with written text.
Candidates must obtain at least 40% out of the 100 possible points. The ASC Selection Board reserves the right to reduce the threshold to 30%. Based on the results of the qualification procedure, the Selection Board draws up ranking lists of all candidates.
