The doctoral programme in literature and linguistics offers covers a variety of areas of contemporary humanities. Students can specialize in (depending on the availability of Advisors):
• American literature, American culture, American film studies;
• British culture, British and American cultural history;
• Jewish studies;
• Polish literature and culture from Middle Ages to the 18th c., history of Polish culture in the European context, religion in Poland;
• media studies, cultural theory;
• general linguistics, cognitive linguistics, English linguistics, historical linguistics, gender linguistics, language and culture, translation studies, phonology, phonetics;
• applied linguistics, foreign language methodology, computer-assisted language learning.
They pursue their research under the guidance of their academic advisor and participate in the academic life of the university. They also have a chance to obtain experience in teaching at university level.


No fee for citizens of EU member states, the Swiss Confederation, EFTA (European Free Trade Association) member States, or holders of a valid Polish Charter.

For other non-Polish nationals:
• 3,000 EUR for year I (and a comparable sum for each successive year);
• one-off 200 EUR payment in Year I;
• a doctoral procedure fee of 5,000 EUR.

education requirements

An M.A. or an equivalent degree in literature, linguistics, philology, literary studies, cultural studies, or a related discipline, obtained from a higher-education institution in Poland or in other countries. Holders of M.A. degrees in other disciplines can also apply but must produce a list of their publications and/or other kinds of academic achievements in the areas specified.
