The Maria Grzegorzewska University:
Since 1922, this University has established itself as a diverse and culturally rich institution of higher education.
University biggest asset include is highly qualified staff; numerous study programs; and conveniently located premises supplied with current IT equipment. The University also providing a broad range of study opportunities, as well as facilitating job placement upon completion of study.
Today we have approximately 7000 students enrolled in our full-time and part-time study programs. Additionally, the University offers postgraduate programs that provide complementary qualifications in general and special education. Since 2005/2006 the University is committed to Bologna process and from 2009/2010 the Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences offers a doctoral studies. In cooperation with 20 internationally recognized universities we offer student exchange under ERASMUS Program and since 2007/2008 the University offers the life-long learning program under the auspices of the European Union.
The Special Education program focuses on general teacher training and teaching children and adults with intellectual challenges; hearing; speech; and/or sight impediments; physical disabilities as well as emotional and behavioral disorders.
Our pedagogical courses prepare teachers for working at school (a school pedagogue) and other special educational centers, aiming to educate and guide social pedagogy. This refers to family support services; cultural and educational activity in a local area; continued adult education; job counseling; community prevention (i.e. street education) and creative psycho-pedagogy, designed to prepare for non-educational work with children.
Artistic Education is a fine arts program providing competency in fine arts as well as preparing graduates for work in a broad range of educational and therapeutic institutions.
The Faculty of Applied Social Sciences is the first higher education institution in Poland to have started a full-time social work study program. The program is designed to meet the needs of a growing elderly population; disabled or the chronically ill needing care and support.
Our University educates social workers in a full study program, comparable to other such courses offered in the EU (previously, the social work faculty was incorporated into other social science courses). The sociology course is aimed at training counselors as well as reducing inequalities in education for people whom may be experiencing social isolation.
The master degree program in psychology started in the academic year 2007/2008 at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences. Psychology at The Maria Grzegorzewska University has three specialities – Clinical Psychology, Developmental Facilitation and Education and Applied Social Psychology.
Clinical Psychology prepares students for diagnostic roles as therapists and clinic psychologists.
Applied Social Psychology focuses on counseling, training, intervention and coaching.
Since the academic year 2016/2017 to offer study introduced a new direction - the interdisciplinary study of disability. Studies in this country unique in the offer to acquire interdisciplinary knowledge, skills and social skills necessary to understand and explain disability and activities for people with disabilities and their families.
Besides educational activity, our university is involved in a wide range of interdisciplinary scientific research studies. In addition, The Maria Grzegorzewska University conducts various projects under the auspices of the European Social Fund. We have a modern library operated by a computerized service system, and we offer online access to our catalogues.
