Course Description
Course Profile
This Master’s Program is the only program in Poland where you can study ethnology and anthropology in English. It is addressed to students with B.A. degree in social and cultural anthropology and ethnology, as well as in other social sciences, humanities and art studies who have strong interest in the discipline and its methods.
Selected study areas
The MA Program is part of the CREOLE network: our students participate in short and long exchanges with partner institutions and in the 5-day summer intensive program for participants from Institutes and Departments of Anthropology in Maynooth, Ireland; Vienna, Austria; Lyon, France; Bern, Switzerland; Ljubljana, Slovenia; and Barcelona, Spain.
It has a strong focus on changes that take place in contemporary societies around the world, and it is research oriented. Our students learn about contemporary theories in anthropology; how to independently conduct ethnographic research; critically reflect on the pending issues of our time; and intervene in them through public engagement.
In the Master’s Program you will:
o Gain an understanding of anthropological approaches to urgent societal changes in Europe and beyond;
o Learn ethnographic research methods (including an advanced training in visual anthropology) and anthropological theories applicable to the study of international migration, politics, medicine, economy, environment, and energy;
o Develop problem-solving skills and ability to provide policy and program recommendations;
o Study anthropology abroad and conduct your research in one of the partner institutions for one or two semesters.
Work opportunities
The program will prepare students for doctoral studies as well as careers in public policy, civil society and community organizing, journalism and visual media, public administration, social work, and education. Getting a master’s degree in Anthropology will equip students with knowledge and practical skills to deal with the challenges and to embrace the opportunities of todays’ changing societies.
