Course Description

Course Profile

Faculty of Physics is one of the youngest and the smallest faculties at the Warsaw University of Technology. Nevertheless, a long term experience in teaching gathered previously as the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics combined with a high contribution of research in entire course of study causes that Faculty of Physics takes a leading position in physics faculties in Poland. A limited number of students starting their education each year allows for a high individuality of the learning process and gives possibility to study in comfortable and homey conditions. Apart from studies in Applied Physics (in Polish), Faculty of Physics offers a programme in English which leads to the M.Sc. degree in Photonics.
Photonics belongs to EU Key Enabling Technologies of the 21st century with strong impact in almost every aspect of our lives. As a field of science in which fundamental properties of light and its interaction with matter are studied and applied in practice, Photonics is of great importance in many industrial sectors and areas that use photonic technology for research, data- and telecommunication, business, education, security and defense, imaging, sensing, medicine, process control, biotechnology, energy, etc.
The Faculty offers advanced and specialized courses in optics and photonics covering all relevant fundamental research and applications including training in lasers, optical and photonic crystal fibers, liquid crystal photonics, optical waveguides, displays, holography, optoelectronics, optical sensing, data and telecommunication, terahertz technology, new material technology, ultra-fast and nonlinear optical phenomena, photovoltaics.
