Course Description

Course Profile

Area of Studies: Engineering and technology (Disciplines: biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, information and communication technology)

The aim of education in the field of Medical Engineering, graduate degree studies (second-cycle) with a practical profile, is to prepare specialists with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in the field of engineering and technology, in the following disciplines: biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, technical computer science and telecommunications. The main aim is to develop practical skills that prepare for work in various sectors of the economy and institutions related to the design, production, and proper use of medical equipment, as well as conducting scientific research and implementations in this field.

Within the Medical Engineering field of study, the following specialties are conducted:

Artificial Intelligence in Medical Diagnostics,

Biomechanics.

These specialties are a response to the observed progress in medical technologies in imaging diagnostics, material solutions, and the use of numerical and experimental research in medicine.

Artificial Intelligence in the Medical Diagnostics specialty constitutes a response to the observed dynamic progress in the medical technologies area concerning the field of imaging diagnostics and digital tools supporting the analysis of a patient's health, as well as to the unprecedented increase in the possibilities of using artificial intelligence algorithms in medical diagnostics. A graduate of this specialty has knowledge and skills in the application of artificial intelligence methods in medicine. Moreover, a graduate can develop and implement IT tools dedicated to the processing and analysis of biomedical data, interpret real-time output from diagnostic apparatus, and design decision-making models in medical diagnostics.

Biomechanics specialty constitutes a response to the growing demand for the implementation of innovative material and mechanical solutions in medical technologies for orthopedics, prosthetics, and rehabilitation. A graduate of this specialty knows the biomechanics of the human musculoskeletal system, which can be utilized to design prostheses and orthoses, implement reverse engineering tools, and program complex biomechanical control systems.

Graduates of Medical Engineering will be able to take up employment in e.g.:

enterprises related to design and manufacture of medical devices and equipment, as constructors and designers of rehabilitation devices, prostheses, implants, devices, and medical tools,

institutions and R&D centers developing medical technology as well as accreditation and attestation bodies for medical devices,

IT companies involved in developing and implementing tools dedicated to the processing and analysis of biomedical data, in the capacity of programmers, analysts, implementation engineers and software testers,

consulting institutions and companies of the medical industry,

health care facilities, as personnel supporting the selection, proper operation and supervision of the use of medical equipment,

own manufacturing or service companies in the field of medical engineering.

Education Requirements

Admission to graduate degree studies in the Medical Engineering curriculum (full-time and part-time) with a practical profile may be applied for by candidates who have a diploma of completion of undergraduate engineering studies (first cycle - Bachelor of Engineering) or a Master's degree in engineering (second cycle - Master of Engineering).

The candidate should have documented knowledge of English at the B2 level. In case of a lack of documented English language proficiency, the candidate will be required to undergo a qualification interview in English, which will verify their language skills (at least at the B2 level).

The qualification of the candidates is carried out based on the competition for higher education diplomas. The Faculty Enrolment Committee makes the final decision within the time limit resulting from the recruitment schedule.
