Course Description
Course Profile
Our programme combines teaching English to young learners with the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach. You will learn how to effectively teach English to children and integrate language learning with subjects such as science, mathematics, art, music, and physical education. You will explore various contexts of language teaching to children, with a particular emphasis on subject-language integration, bilingual education and plurilingual pedagogies. You will gain extensive knowledge about how children acquire languages, enabling you to tailor teaching methods to their needs.
During your studies, you will familiarise yourself with modern curricula in different international contexts, including bilingual and international schools. You will also develop the skills to work with children from diverse cultural and linguistic contexts, which is crucial in a global educational environment.
Where you can find a job after completing studies
As a graduate of our programme, you will acquire comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of pedagogy and English language teaching. You will be prepared to work in an international educational setting and to develop your own teaching attitudes through reflection and research in the field of language education, with a focus on plurilingual pedagogies in early primary education.
Our graduates work as English language teachers in bilingual preschools and primary schools at the first educational stage, international schools in different educational and cultural contexts in Poland and abroad. The study programme will prepare you to teach using the CLIL approach and effectively integrate subject content with English language instruction.
Qualifications to teach English in preschool and in primary school (grades 1–3) will only be granted if you have completed psychological and pedagogical preparation during your undergraduate (first-cycle) studies.
Are there different specialties and specializations at the field of studies
Our study programme offers a wide range of courses tailored to the needs of English language teachers in early childhood education. While there are no distinct specialisations, the curriculum covers different aspects of language teaching for young learners, subject integration, and pedagogy in an international context.
What will you learn during the studies
The integration of theory and practice is a key element of the programme. You will participate in study visits to international and bilingual schools in Poland such as American School of Warsaw or Trilingual International School of Warsaw. Throughout your studies, you will take part in teaching placements (150 hours) in carefully selected preschools and schools, both public and private. This will give you hands-on experience with various approaches to early language education and the CLIL approach. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage in international teaching and research projects led by our academic staff.
All classes are conducted in English, allowing you to develop your language skills, particularly in academic English and classroom communication. You will study in small, international groups and use modern educational technologies, such as digital tools for creating teaching portfolios, research tools such as zotero and online databases provided by training through the University of Warsaw library. Our courses are delivered by experienced lecturers and education practitioners from Poland and abroad.
