Course Description
Course Profile
Geology plays a crucial role in addressing global environmental and industrial challenges. The Applied Geoscience programme is designed for international students seeking a comprehensive education in geosciences with a focus on practical applications. Spanning two years (four semesters), this programme equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle issues related to mineral resources, environmental protection, hydrogeology, and geological engineering. The curriculum is structured to gradually build expertise, starting with foundational programmes and advancing towards specialised topics, culminating in an independent MSc thesis project in the final semester.
The programme offers a structured academic pathway covering mineralogy, petrology, stratigraphy, structural and economic geology, hydrogeology, and environmental geochemistry. Programmes emphasise both theoretical knowledge and practical applications, integrating modern geological methods to solve real-world environmental and industrial problems. Students progress from fundamental concepts in the first semester to advanced topics in the second and third, ensuring a solid grasp of applied geosciences. The curriculum also includes elective programmes across four modules, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests, along with optional field programmes providing hands-on experience in geological research and surveying. Graduates of this programme are well-prepared for careers in geological surveys, environmental consulting, natural resource exploration, and industries related to construction, land development, and environmental protection. By combining technical expertise with an understanding of global challenges, this programme trains geologists to contribute to sustainable resource management and environmental conservation.
